How to start an SEO company

This has got to be the least targeted aardvark question ever:

Does anyone know… how to start a search engine optimization firm?
- Tai N. M / Guwahati, India

Pretty broad question. I’d say that you’d be following whatever local registration process applies to any other service oriented company.

Once you are properly registered, you’ll need customers, I recommend developing relationships with web developers and trying to capture their customers’ SEO requests, even if you have to pay the company a fee for the referrals that become your customers.

Once you have success for your SEO customers, advertise it, let people know what you did and encourage them to contact you so you can do the same for them.

Hope this basic outline helps!

Free online resources for SEO

What is the best free online resource about SEO that you know?
– Mehdi S. M / Queens, NY

Google!!!!

Just Kidding. I wouldn’t rely on any one source, and no matter what you read, only your own experience, founded on exactly what you’ve done for a given website, serves you in making great choices for SEO activities.

Are you eating poison?

The most important thing in SEO is current experience. With that said, we have discovered the most likely reason some companies have fallen in rankings since January, and are now experimenting with a cure.

Have you got a good SEO doctor? Maybe it’s time to call one?

Tom Corbett Faces Off Against A Bunch of Rick Blaine Wannabes

Have you guys heard about the war going on between Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett and bloggers bfbarbie and CasaBlancaPA? Corbett has subpoenaed Twitter in order to gain “Any and all subscriber information…” on these two, in order to pursue criminal charges. Corbett’s vendetta seems directed more toward the blog they contribute to, which is also titled CasaBlancaPA. The blog sports this catchy mission statement: Exposing the hypocrisy of Tom Corbett.

But in doing so have they done something illegal? As far as we can tell, no. And judging as how anonymous speech is a big part of the first amendment it’s hard to see what legal ground Corbett has to stand on. Then again, it’s hard to see how he managed to get elected (and re-elected) in the first place. Did I mention he’s the leading gubernatorial candidate as well?

Coming after this blog just makes Corbett look guiltier and in doing so has only served to bring more publicity to their cause. Someone should tell Corbett how silencing criticism worked out for John Adams when he passed the Sedition Act way back in 1978.

You can judge the blog for yourself here.

We encourage the candidate to focus on the issues and talk about what his (potential) constituents can expect of his administration. And if Corbett succeeds in his bid to become the next governor then the folks at CasaBlancaPA, to quote their favorite movie, had better “Either lay off politics, or get out.”

Micro-Ho! Mashup

Whose your Micro-Ho?

Yahoo will serve Bing results, and sell advertising on both Yahoo and Bing.

Will wonders never cease?

Seriously, a lot of spammers are going to regret the loss of yahoo traffic since they have been relatively easy to game if you were willing to give up Google traffic… Which we wouldn’t recommend!

Dedication Questioned

The Cacophony Society … was started in 1986 by surviving members of the now defunct Suicide Club of San Francisco.

My first question is, how dedicated could they really be?
